Shaare Zedek is a family. It was organized in 1905 in the City of St. Louis when 26 men signed the original Articles of Incorporation as a traditional congregation. Later, Shaare Zedek became and is now an egalitarian Conservative Jewish congregation. Its members have met and worshipped on a continuous basis in various locations. Construction of the present synagogue in University City began in 1952. The building has recently undergone extensive renovation.
